Goodbye Truecaller? Jio, Airtel, Vi, and BSNL Launch Native CNAP Service!

We’ve all been there. You’re in the middle of a meeting, your phone rings, and the screen flashes “Spam Likely” or “Unknown Number.” Do you pick up and risk a scam, or ignore it and miss an important call?

For years, we relied on Truecaller to solve this. But what if I told you that you won’t need an app anymore?

The Indian telecom giants—Jio, Airtel, Vodafone Idea (Vi), and BSNL—have officially joined hands to kill spam the native way. They have started trials for CNAP (Caller Name Presentation).

Welcome to the era of Carrier-Verified Caller ID.

CNAP Service India: Jio, Airtel, Vi Launch Native Caller ID (No Truecaller Needed)

🛡️ What is CNAP (Caller Name Presentation)?

CNAP is a native telecom feature. Instead of an app guessing who is calling you based on crowd-sourced data, your telecom operator will display the name of the person calling you.

How does it work?
It pulls data directly from the KYC (Know Your Customer) database. Since every SIM card is linked to an Aadhaar or ID proof, the operator knows exactly who owns the number. When they call you, their verified name pops up on your screen.

🆚 CNAP vs. Truecaller: Who Wins?

FeatureNative CNAP (Jio/Airtel/Vi/BSNL)Truecaller (App)
Data SourceOfficial KYC Database (Govt Verified)Crowd-sourced (Users uploading contacts)
Accuracy100% (If KYC is clean)Often Inaccurate
PrivacyHigh (No data sharing with 3rd party)Low (You upload your contacts to them)

The Verdict: For identifying who is calling, CNAP is the clear winner. It is official, accurate, and doesn’t spy on you.

🚀 The Rollout: When Will You Get It?

The trials have already begun!

  • Current Status: Select users on Jio, Airtel, and Vi are already seeing names instead of numbers.
  • BSNL: Has also joined the party to upgrade landline and mobile experiences.
  • Pan-India Target: The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has set a deadline of March 2026 for 100% coverage across India.

📲 How to Enable CNAP?

Since this is a network-level update, you usually don’t need to do much. However, if you aren’t seeing it yet:

  1. Go to your Phone’s Settings.
  2. Look for Caller ID & Spam or Connected Services.
  3. Ensure “Show Caller Name” or “CNAP” is toggled ON.
  4. Note: If it’s not there yet, don’t worry—the OTA update is rolling out to your device soon!

💡 Satya It Solution’s Take

At Satya It Solution, we believe this is the biggest upgrade to Indian telecom since 4G.

Scammers in India lose their biggest weapon: Anonymity. When a scammer calls you from a KYC-verified number, seeing “Rahul Kumar” pop up on the screen makes it much harder for them to hide. This will drastically reduce mobile tower fraud and banking scams.
